Exercise Physiology in Emerald, Queensland

Structured, evidence-based exercise programs to help you manage chronic conditions, recover from injury, and build the strength and function to live well for the long term.

What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise physiology is an allied health profession focused on the assessment and treatment of chronic disease, injury, and disability through structured, evidence-based exercise. Accredited exercise physiologists are university-trained health professionals who design and deliver personalised exercise programs to help people manage their health, recover from injury, and build long-term physical function.

At You Move Health & Rehab, exercise physiology is central to everything we do. Whether you are managing a chronic health condition, working through the later stages of injury rehabilitation, or wanting to build lasting strength and independence, our accredited exercise physiologists build programs that are grounded in evidence, tailored to your goals, and designed to get you real results.

Conditions We Treat

Osteoporosis and Bone Health

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools for managing osteoporosis and reducing fracture risk. Our exercise physiologists design targeted strength and bone loading programs to slow bone density loss, build muscle mass, and improve balance, giving you the best foundation for long-term bone health. We work with adults across all stages of osteoporosis, from early bone loss through to established osteoporosis and fracture recovery.

Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Injury Recovery

Exercise physiology plays a critical role in the mid-to-late stages of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, bridging the gap between early physiotherapy treatment and a full return to activity. We work with adults recovering from joint injuries, tendon conditions, fractures, post-surgical rehabilitation, and chronic musculoskeletal pain to rebuild strength, movement, and confidence progressively and safely.

Chronic Disease Management

Structured exercise is one of the most effective interventions available for managing chronic health conditions. We design personalised programs for adults managing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension, and other chronic conditions. Medicare chronic disease management plans and NDIS accepted.

Diabetes and Metabolic Health

Regular exercise improves insulin sensitivity, blood glucose regulation, and metabolic function. Our exercise physiologists design safe, progressive programs that fit your lifestyle and support your broader diabetes management plan, working alongside your GP and other health professionals.

Cardiovascular Disease and Rehabilitation

Exercise is a cornerstone of cardiovascular disease management and recovery. We design structured programs for adults managing heart disease, hypertension, and those recovering from cardiac events, helping you build cardiovascular fitness, improve heart health, and reduce long-term risk safely and progressively.

Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation

Exercise during and after cancer treatment has strong evidence for reducing fatigue, improving physical function, and supporting mental health and quality of life. Our exercise physiologists design safe, tailored programs for people at all stages of cancer treatment and recovery, working alongside your oncology team.

Mental Health and Exercise

Exercise has well-established benefits for mental health, including reduced symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. We work with adults for whom mental health is a primary or contributing factor in their health journey, providing structured exercise support in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Neurological Conditions

We provide exercise-based rehabilitation for adults managing neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and acquired brain injury. Our programs focus on improving strength, balance, coordination, and functional independence.

Intellectual Disability

We provide exercise physiology services for adults with intellectual disability, including NDIS participants, with a focus on building physical health, functional capacity, and the skills to engage in regular physical activity independently. Our approach is patient, individualised, and always tailored to the person in front of us.

Our Approach to Exercise Physiology

Exercise physiology at You Move Health & Rehab is built on one core belief: that the right exercise, done consistently and progressively, is one of the most powerful things a person can do for their health.

Every program we design is individualised. We do not use generic templates or one-size-fits-all approaches. We take the time to understand your full health picture, your goals, and your life, and we build a program that fits within it. Where relevant, we use objective strength and movement testing technology to measure your baseline, track your progress, and give you data you can actually see changing over time.

We also work closely with the wider healthcare team. Whether that means coordinating with your GP under a chronic disease management plan, collaborating with our physiotherapist during injury rehabilitation, or communicating with your specialist, we see integrated care as essential to getting the best outcome for you.

Our aim is not to create dependence on ongoing appointments. It is to build your knowledge, your confidence, and your physical capacity to the point where you can take ownership of your health for the long term.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Step 1

Comprehensive Assessment: Your first appointment begins with a thorough discussion of your health history, current medications, goals, and any relevant medical history. Where appropriate, we use objective strength and movement testing to establish a clear baseline and identify the areas that need the most attention.

Step 2

Your Personalised Program: Based on your assessment, we design a structured, progressive exercise program tailored specifically to your goals, health status, and current capacity. We explain the rationale behind every component of your program so you understand why you are doing what you are doing and how it will help.

Step 3

Ongoing Review and Progression: Exercise physiology is not a one-appointment service. We review and progress your program regularly, track your results over time, and adjust your plan as your capacity improves. Our goal is to keep challenging you appropriately and to give you the skills to manage your health independently over the long term.
