Women's and Pelvic Health Physiotherapy in Emerald, Queensland

Dedicated, evidence-based physiotherapy to support women through every stage of life, from pre-conception and pregnancy through to post-natal recovery and beyond.

Supporting Women at Every Stage

Women’s health is not a single moment in time. It is a journey that changes across pre-conception, pregnancy, the post-natal period, and into perimenopause and beyond. At each of these stages, your body faces unique demands, and the right support can make a meaningful difference to how you feel, move, and function.

At You Move Health & Rehab, our physiotherapist provides dedicated women’s and pelvic health services in a private, supportive, and judgement-free environment. We understand that pelvic health concerns can feel sensitive or even embarrassing to raise. Our aim is to make you feel comfortable, heard, and confident that you are in the right place.

We use thorough external assessment, functional movement testing, and evidence-based treatment to understand what is driving your symptoms and build a clear plan to address them.

Conditions We Treat

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

The pelvic floor can be both too weak and too tight, and both presentations cause symptoms. We assess pelvic floor function through external assessment and functional testing and design a targeted treatment and exercise plan to restore normal function.

Urinary Incontinence

Leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise is common but it is not something you simply have to live with. We assess the cause of your incontinence and provide evidence-based treatment to reduce and resolve symptoms.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Prolapse occurs when one or more pelvic organs descend into or beyond the vaginal wall. Physiotherapy plays an important role in managing prolapse symptoms, improving pelvic floor support, and helping you return to the activities you enjoy with confidence.

Diastasis Recti

Separation of the abdominal muscles is common during and after pregnancy. We assess the degree of separation and its functional impact, and guide you through a progressive rehabilitation program to restore core strength and function safely.

Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain can have many causes, including muscular tension, nerve sensitivity, and postural contributors. We take a thorough approach to identifying what is driving your pain and use hands-on treatment and active rehabilitation to reduce symptoms and improve function.

Endometriosis Related Pain

While physiotherapy cannot treat endometriosis itself, it plays an important supporting role in managing the musculoskeletal and pelvic floor contributors to pain. We work alongside your medical team to help you manage symptoms and maintain quality of life.

Painful Intercourse

Pain with intercourse is often related to pelvic floor muscle tension, scar tissue, or nerve sensitivity, and is something physiotherapy can address effectively. We provide a sensitive, professional approach to assessment and treatment in a private environment.

Pregnancy Related Pain

Pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, rib pain, and pubic symphysis pain are common during pregnancy. We assess contributing factors and use hands-on treatment, exercise, and education to manage symptoms throughout your pregnancy.

Post-Natal Return to Exercise

Returning to exercise after having a baby requires a structured, progressive approach that accounts for the changes your body has been through. We guide you safely back to the activities you love, whether that is walking, running, gym training, or sport.

Our Approach to Women's Health

Women’s health physiotherapy is an area where many women feel they have been dismissed, told their symptoms are normal, or simply not sure where to turn. We want to change that experience.

Our approach is thorough, honest, and always led by what matters most to you. We use external assessment and functional testing to understand your pelvic floor and movement, and combine hands-on treatment with active rehabilitation and education to deliver results that last. Rather than creating ongoing reliance on treatment, we aim to give you the knowledge and tools to manage your own health with confidence.

We also recognise that many women come to us having already navigated a long road. We will always take your symptoms seriously, meet you without judgement, and work at a pace that feels right for you.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Step 1

A Thorough & Comfortable Assessment: Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion of your health history, symptoms, and goals. We take the time to understand your full picture before moving to assessment. All assessment is conducted externally and through functional movement testing. There are no internal examinations performed at our clinic.

Step 2

Hands-On Treatment and Exercise: Where appropriate, your physiotherapist will begin treatment in your first session. This may include manual therapy, soft tissue work, taping, or targeted exercise prescription depending on your presentation and comfort.

Step 3

A Clear You Feel Confident In: You will leave your first appointment with a clear understanding of what is contributing to your symptoms and a practical, progressive plan to address them. We place a strong emphasis on education and self-management so you feel informed and in control of your recovery.

Who we see

Pre-Conception: If you are planning a pregnancy, physiotherapy can help prepare your body for the physical demands ahead. We assess pelvic floor function, address any existing pain or movement limitations, and provide education to set you up for a healthy pregnancy.

During Pregnancy: Pregnancy places significant demands on your body. We help manage pregnancy-related pain including pelvic girdle pain, low back pain,  and rib pain, and provide guidance on safe exercise, pelvic floor preparation for birth, and postural changes throughout each trimester.

Post-Natal Recovery: The post-natal period is a time of significant physical recovery. Whether you are six weeks or six years post-natal, it is never too late to address pelvic floor dysfunction, diastasis recti, prolapse, or the safe return to exercise. We meet you where you are and progress at a pace that suits you.

Perimenopause & Beyond: Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect pelvic floor function, bladder control, and pelvic comfort. We provide assessment and treatment to help manage these changes and maintain your quality of life.
